First Graders Present the Beloved Tale of Peter Rabbit
Over the course of two weeks, Blaney Patio became a charming English kitchen garden for the three First Grade class performances of Beatrix Potter’s beloved classic,The Tale ofPeter Rabbit. The annual production of this play by Mrs. Ashen’s, Ms. Burch’s, and Mrs. Cooper’s classes is one of Viewpoint’s most treasured traditions.
It celebrates both the innocence of childhood and the enthusiasm for performance in our young students.
Dressed as rabbits, the narrators proudly read from the original text, while the other children perform the story through song. The play begins, “Once upon a time there were four little rabbits, and their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.” Mrs. Rabbit pleads with her four furry children not to go into Mr. McGregor's garden, but the impish Peter takes this as an open invitation to create mischief. The result is the loss of his new blue jacket, as he narrowly escapes capture by Mr. McGregor like his ill-fated father before him.
The First Graders all readThe Tale of Peter Rabbitin class, and the presentation of the play gives them the opportunity to share what they have read with their families. “This delightful story is adored by the children, and the performances are cherished by our community,” saidMrs. Cathy Adelman, Head of Primary School. “I am especially proud of the children’s high level reading accomplishments. Their lovely singing voices and charming portrayals of the characters were very special as well. It is one of our favorite moments in the entire school year.”
