Community Gathers for 2nd Annual Viewpoint Arts Festival
On Saturday, April 27, hundreds of students and their families gathered on campus for the School’s 2ndAnnual Viewpoint Arts Festival.
This event highlighted the hard work and dedication of the Middle and Upper Schools’ artists, musicians, dancers, and filmmakers, and allowed their families and their peers to see and hear the results of their ongoing commitment to the arts.
The afternoon featured a vast array of music, from the Upper School Wind Ensemble to the premiere of a new written work by the Upper School Orchestra and composer and cellist Marshall McDaniel in conjunction with the Copeland House, to vocal solos, chamber music, traditional ensembles, jazz, and much more. Artwork by the Middle and Upper School students was on display, and the art teachers offered hands-on activities for artists of all ages. The student filmmakers screened their work – both narrative and experimental – and invited the participation of the viewers. The Upper School Dancers performed pieces from the Dance Concert, and the Upper Schoolers shared scenes from their recent production of In the Heights.
For the students and parents in attendance, the Viewpoint Arts Festival offered a rare opportunity to explore the full range of arts taking place on campus each day and to celebrate the significant role the arts play in our students’ lives.
