Viewpoint’s Patriot Robotics Team Wins at VEX State Championship and Advances to World Championship

For the members of Patriot Robotics, the past two weeks have been spent locked in heated competition.
On March 10, the Upper School teams participated in San Diego at the VEX California Southern State Championship. In a very competitive field of 35 robots, Patriot Robotics team 1437 finished with records of 6-1 and 5-2. Their strong performance earned them places on the first and sixth seeded alliances in bracketing play. Team 1437v, which included siblings Brandon F. ’21 and Alyssa F. ’20, orchestrated two amazing upset victories in the quarter and semi-finals to advance to the finals. Team 1437z represented by Kevin Z. ’19, Haley B. ’21, Sammy S. ’20, and Daniel K. ’20, were the top seeded team and worked hard to advance through their side of the bracket with some narrow victories to reach the finals.

This pitted two Patriot Robotics teams against each other for a thrilling final, which saw 1437z defeat 1437v to earn the title of State Champion. This is the first State Championship for the Viewpoint Robotics program and we are thrilled to achieve this milestone. Both Upper School teams earned their way to the World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky on March 24, and will be proud to represent our school and state moving forward.

The State Championship kicked off the week before with the Middle School competition on March 3. As Robotics Coach Lance Argano-Rush explained, “For the first time our Middle School Patriot Robotics team 510z earned their way into the state level competition. It was the capstone of an extremely strong year for our younger members. Competitively, they did not accomplish what they dreamed of, but they did earn the respect of the community winning the Judges Award. It was a growing moment that has fueled them to come back next year with an increased desire and passion. They are proud of their accomplishments this year and have already turned the page to begin organizing for next season.”
Congratulations to the Patriots Robotics Team and good luck in the World Championship!
