Viewpoint’s Upper School Sports Media Students Influence Segment on CIF Southern Section Show Featured on Spectrum News
Romy Harari ’26 never imagined that her first interview in Viewpoint’s Sports Media program would lead to co-hosting an entire segment of “CIF-SS This Week,” a show aired in partnership with Spectrum News. On January 11, with just a few minute’s notice, Harari confidently stepped into the professional spotlight, co-hosting the episode alongside series host Taylor Martinez.
“I was nervous at first, but I knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Harari said. “Being able to co-host with Taylor was such an exciting experience, and it taught me to trust myself and step out of my comfort zone.”
In addition to her role as co-host, Harari’s student-led interview with Viewpoint’s new Director of Athletics, Josh Frechette, was featured during the episode. The opportunity arose when CIF producers discovered the interview on the school’s sports media social page and were impressed by the high-quality work produced by Viewpoint’s students.
“Creating the interview with Mr. Frechette was a team effort,” Harari said. “We planned every detail, from the questions to the lighting and camera setup.”
“This experience showed our students that persistence and hard work pay off,” Sports Media Teacher Sheldon Sheehy said. “The first attempt at filming the interview had its challenges, but the students persevered. That process of adapting and improving is a skill that will serve them far beyond the classroom.”
The episode aired live on January 11, with multiple replays on Spectrum News and extended reach through CIF Southern Section’s YouTube channel.
“I couldn’t believe it when CIF wanted to feature my interview,” Harari said. “After everything that went wrong during the first shoot, I wasn’t sure we’d pull it off. But staying committed and seeing the final product reminded me that challenges can lead to amazing opportunities when you push through.”
“It really takes a village,” Sheehy added. “The students worked together on every aspect to ensure the content was intentional and high-quality. Seeing their work recognized on this level is a proud moment for all of us and reflects the importance of doing your best with what’s available.”
This experience exemplifies Viewpoint’s mission to develop world-ready individuals with the ability to critically think and problem solve, while honing their imaginations. Congratulations to Romy Harari ’26 and the entire Sports Media team for their outstanding work.
