On Tuesday, September 9, the Malcolm Family Art Gallery came alive with creativity during Viewpoint’s annual All Employee Art Show. Founded by Visual Arts Department Chair Nell Yates five years ago, the event began as a showcase for the Visual Arts faculty and has since grown into a schoolwide celebration of artistic expression.

“We are a community of thinkers and doers and creative people,” Yates said. “This show highlights the many facets of who we are, beyond our day-to-day responsibilities.”

This year’s exhibition featured 31 submissions from employees across divisions and departments, highlighting the wide range of talent within the community. Works included photography, ceramics, macramé, mixed media, and even edible art.

“Rarely are adults highlighted in this way,” Yates said. “You might think a drawing was just a small sketch you did, but now it’s matted, on a gallery wall, it has your name tag, and it’s given a title. That recognition can be really empowering. Not just as an artist, but as a creative individual.”

“Most of the time I’m capturing life at Viewpoint, so it was a fun change to share something more personal,” shared Content Marketing Specialist Tanner Wilson. “The photo I took at the Sum 41 concert is one of my favorites, and seeing it displayed in the gallery alongside everyone else’s work was really rewarding.”

The All Employee Art Show alternates with the Visual Arts Faculty Show each year, giving the community the chance to see new work on a regular basis. The next exhibition will feature the Visual Arts faculty in September 2026, followed by the next All Employee Art Show in September 2027.

“We do so much for the students and families at Viewpoint, but we also need to fill our own buckets,” Yates said. “Making art is one way to do that, and when you have the courage to put your work out there, the recognition can inspire you to keep creating.”

The current show will remain on display in the Malcolm Family Gallery through October 1, inviting students, families, and colleagues to experience the creativity and passion of Viewpoint’s employees.
