Viewpoint sophomore Marin Purdy ’28 has been recognized with two major honors through the 2025-26 Positive Athlete program, earning both the title of 2026 Most Positive Girls Swimming Athlete in Los Angeles and the inaugural Tayden Ripple Effect Award.

Positive Athlete selected Marin from a pool of more than 15,000 nominated student-athletes and coaches representing over 6,000 high schools nationwide. According to the organization, only approximately five percent of nominees receive award recognition.

Marin was recognized not only for her accomplishments in the pool, but also for her leadership, advocacy, and resilience beyond athletics. A Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador and recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Marin’s nomination highlighted her positive mindset, dedication to her teammates and community, and ability to navigate personal challenges with resilience.

“Marin brings an infectious energy and positivity to the pool and combines that with an incredible work ethic,” Head Coach Greg Bisheff said. “She can always be counted on to give 100% in every race and is a tremendous teammate who is always on the side of the pool cheering on everyone else on the team.”

Positive Athlete also selected Marin as the recipient of the inaugural Tayden Ripple Effect Award, a newly established honor recognizing a student-athlete whose impact extends beyond traditional measures of success and who fosters connection, belonging, and positivity while navigating life with a disability. The award was created in memory of Tayden Tomblin, a senior at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara County and a Positive Athlete nominee whose optimism and ability to bring people together left a lasting impact on those around him.

Bisheff said Marin’s leadership, positivity, and determination have made a lasting impression on Viewpoint’s swim program.

“Marin is a special student-athlete who has impacted our team in so many ways,” Bisheff said. “She is an incredible person, teammate, and swimmer.”

Marin will be formally recognized alongside other Positive Athlete award winners during a celebration at the Verizon Innovation Lab in Playa del Rey on June 16.
