Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration: A Day of Culture, Community, and Connection

On Wednesday, October 8, Viewpoint School’s Office of Community Life led a campus-wide celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, bringing students together across all divisions to honor culture and tradition through music, food, and shared learning.

In the Primary and Lower School, family volunteers from the Hispanic Parents Association provided pencils featuring cultural designs for every student, along with a small giveaway delivered that morning. Classes also watched a four-minute family video created by the association, highlighting members of the Viewpoint community sharing pride in their heritage and traditions.

Middle and Upper School students joined the celebration later in the day. Middle School gathered on Litow Patio for a lunchtime event featuring traditional Salvadorian food, Lotería, and educational games highlighting Hispanic culture.

During I Block, Upper School students assembled on the plaza for their division’s celebration, which included food, music performed by the Upper School Jazz Ensemble, a piñata activity, and Lotería. As part of the event, Samuel Buch ’28, a member of the Latin American Student Union, hosted a table displaying textiles and artifacts from Peru and Mexico that his father brought back after providing free surgeries in Peru.

“I think it’s really important for people to express appreciation for the cultures around them,” Samuel said. “Even though I’m not Hispanic, I wanted to show support for my friends and community members by sharing these pieces of their culture and helping others learn about it.”

Moments like these continue to bring our community together in meaningful ways, celebrating the heritages that shape our campus and reinforcing Viewpoint’s commitment to honoring unity in diversity.

Throughout the month, Viewpoint has been honoring Hispanic Heritage Month across campus. Hear from our students and faculty as they reflect on Latino culture and share what this month means to them. Watch the video here.
