Each spring, the Viewpoint School Service Association (VSSA), our parent volunteer group, hosts its annual luncheon—a celebration that brings together members of our community to connect, and recognize the extraordinary achievements of our Upper School students in the areas of community service, building community, and fostering belonging.

This year’s event, held at the Sherwood Country Club, invited guests to enjoy a curated shopping experience, lunch, and a festive atmosphere—including a prize for Best Kentucky Derby Hat—all set against the stunning backdrop of rolling hills and spring sunshine.

As the program began, Autumn Kreshek ’25 was presented with this year’s Community Service Award by Shelley Kierman, Associate Director of College Counseling. This award, established by VSSA, honors an Upper School student who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to serving both the Viewpoint community and the greater world.

“Autumn is the kind of person who doesn’t need to hold an official title to lead and initiate,” said Shelley Kierman. “She cares deeply about service and helping others, and she operates from a place of empathy and kindness. She finds ways to incorporate service into every aspect of her life, as a natural outpouring of her character.”

The program continued with the presentation of the Viewpoint School Belonging and Community Life Award, which recognizes students who exemplify leadership, compassion, and a deep commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive school environment. Established in 2025 as an evolution of a prior award honoring social justice and ethical leadership, this new recognition celebrates students who go beyond, engaging in meaningful efforts to build community and foster belonging.

In its inaugural year, three exceptional Upper School students—Zooey Jeong ’25, Jake Sklar ’25, and Summer Garland ’25—were honored for their unwavering dedication to academic excellence, volunteerism, active participation in education and celebration of cultures.

“Each of these students has given of their time, ideas, and talents to creatively offer education and insight that nurture our welcoming and inclusive Viewpoint environment,” said Patricia Jackson, Chief Belonging and Community Officer. “They are accomplished beyond their years, and it has been my great pleasure to watch them grow and develop into the amazing humans that they are.”

Following the awards, guests were treated to moving solo performances by Upper School Concert Choir members Julian Dans ’25, Lily Davis ’25, Nathan Danese ’25, and Carly Nelson ’25, under the direction of Middle & Upper School Choral Music Teacher Ms. Carrie Dietsch.
