A Week of Cultural Celebration: Honoring Diwali and Día de Los Muertos Across Campus
Last week, Viewpoint School celebrated Diwali and Día de Los Muertos, embracing unity in diversity across all divisions. These events allowed students, faculty, and families to come together and appreciate the rich cultural heritage within our community.
The Diwali festivities began with activities highlighting the “Festival of Light,” celebrated globally by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and others. Lower School students watched an educational video and shared family traditions, with a display table featuring traditional Diwali decorations set up by our parent volunteers.
Middle School students decorated Litow Patio with rangoli designs using chalk in honor of the holiday. In the Upper School Plaza, students participated in diya painting, enjoyed traditional Indian dishes, and joined in rangoli drawing.
Later in the week, Viewpoint’s campus turned its attention to Día de Los Muertos, the Mexican “Day of the Dead,” celebrated on November 1-2. This holiday is a time to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away, with festivities that include colorful altars, marigold flowers, and symbolic offerings. Parent volunteers helped hand out pan de muerto, a sweet, brioche-like bread symbolizing the cycle of life and death, to students across all divisions.
Viewpoint School is proud to celebrate and honor the diverse cultures that enrich our campus, fostering a community where traditions are shared and valued. To learn more about Día de Los Muertos, click here, and for additional information on Diwali, click here.
