A Slam Dunk Victory: Viewpoint Boys Basketball Wins Desert Holiday Hoop Classic Championship
The Viewpoint School boys basketball team showcased their skill over Winter Break, securing the championship title at the prestigious Desert Holiday Hoop Classic. Held from December 26 to 30 in Palm Desert, the tournament is one of the largest in the country, attracting approximately 150 teams nationwide.
Despite facing challenges, including a limited roster of seven players due to injuries and illnesses, the team excelled, securing a perfect 4-0 record. The championship game against Saguaro High School ended in a 74-65 victory. Wesley Waddles ’25 earned the tournament MVP award, while Aeneas Grullon ’25 and Luke Jacobs ’26 were recognized with all-tournament honors for their consistent performances throughout the event.
Other key players in the tournament included Monty Koonce ’26, Will Koonce ’28, Brody Jones ’27, Jonah Boudai ’25, Lucas Gal ’27, and Elie Netzah ’25.
“This group has really come together at the most critical time of the year,” said JJ Prince, Head Coach of Boys Basketball. “The Desert Holiday Hoop Classic was an opportunity for the players to bond, focus on basketball, and step away from their rigorous academic schedules.”
This championship win sets a promising tone for the remainder of the season, with the team already eyeing its next major goal.
“Winning this tournament reaffirms how strong we are as a team and prepares us for the challenges to come,” Prince added. “It’s a great marker of our progress as we aim for a CIF championship.”
Congratulations to the Viewpoint boys basketball team on this incredible achievement! Their dedication and teamwork have set the stage for an exciting season ahead.
