Viewpoint School Service Association—Powered by Parent Volunteers

The VSSA recognizes the importance of maintaining and nurturing the unique traditions of our community and our School. In keeping with the School’s motto, "Fide et Amore,” (with Faithfulness and Love), our parent volunteers at Viewpoint truly enrich the lives of our children each day.

The VSSA supports the non-academic activities of the School.

Our parent volunteers work closely with administrators, faculty, and staff to benefit all students and to build a sense of community among our families

There are many ways you can volunteer. Although some of the VSSA-sponsored events and services produce revenue, the VSSA’s primary purpose is “friend raising” and “fun raising.” We direct any monies raised back to VSSA-sponsored events and activities to support our students, faculty, and parents.

More Than 180 Members of Our Viewpoint Community Shopped, Sipped, and Socialized at the Annual VSSA Holiday Boutique and Luncheon

Last month, our community came together to support the Viewpoint School Service Association (VSSA) at its annual Holiday Luncheon and Boutique held at The Four Seasons in Westlake Village.

Attendees had the opportunity to shop from 21 different local vendors, including stores like Elfin Los Angeles, Malibu Road Clothing, Christy Kendall Photography, The Foundry, Not Rational, and more, ensuring they could find something for everyone on their holiday shopping list. The event was highly successful, with 20% of proceeds provided to the VSSA for student and faculty activities.

VSSA Parent Volunteers and Primary and Lower School Faculty Present Great Pumpkin Day 2024: A Spooktacular Celebration of Imagination and Innovation

Since 1964, Viewpoint’s students have celebrated Great Pumpkin Day and each year they eagerly anticipate this beloved Halloween tradition. On the morning of Thursday, October 31, students from the Primary and Lower Schools celebrated Great Pumpkin Day by wearing their costumes to school and enjoying a trick-or-treating adventure through Booothtacular, made possible by our dedicated VSSA parent volunteers.

Karpatian Courtyard was transformed into Halloween lane, featuring a booth for each grade, creatively and cleverly decorated. From Witches, I Scream, Monsters, Inc., and Mad Scientists, to the Sephorror House, Alice in Wonderland, and Candyland, each class visited the booths and received special treats. The pure joy on the faces of children and adults alike won’t soon be forgotten.

Following this new and exciting activity, students, parents, faculty, and staff gathered at the Paul Family Athletic Center (PFAC) to watch TK-5 students perform at the annual Great Pumpkin Day Assembly. Hosted by our Fifth Grade students, this year’s theme was “Law & Order SPU (Special Pumpkins Unit) and told an entertaining story of “Who Stole the Witches’ Brew Track?” Between scenes, Kindergarteners through Fourth Graders treated the audience to a selection of Halloween-themed tunes, including “Bitty Bitty Bat,” “Purple People Eater,” “Something Spooky,” “The Addams Family Theme,” “Zombie Style,” and “I Love Halloween.”

A spooktacular time was had by all at the School’s 60th annual Great Pumpkin Day event!

Viewpoint School recognizes Dr. Niniek Purnomo and Klaus A. Woizik and The Deng Family for their leadership support in the Viewpoint Fund and their symbolic sponsorship of this event as donors in our Chair's and Head of School Circles.

Celebrating World Languages and Cultures, Food and Community at Viewpoint’s Annual Fall Multicultural Day

On Thursday, October 17, Viewpoint held its annual Fall Multicultural Day, hosted by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Life, along with our Parent Partnership for Diversity and Inclusion (PPDI). Families celebrated our many cultures through the enjoyment of food and live music, while learning about Affinity Groups and World Language offerings.

“Our Viewpoint community gathered with heartwarming enthusiasm for this year’s Fall Multicultural Day,” said Patricia Jackson, Chief Belonging and Community Officer. “Our collective commitment to celebrating diversity, fostering connection, and supporting one another was on full display!”

Viewpoint families arrived with a wide variety of home-cooked meals, from savory dishes to sweet treats, offering all who attended enticing options. As a community where families value unity in diversity, this annual and beloved event provides a beautiful setting for our families and employees to connect in joy.

In addition to the potluck, the event featured cultural displays offered by our World Languages Department, giving attendees a chance to explore the various languages spoken and studied at Viewpoint. Voices Now, our Upper School singing ensemble, entertained guests with a new arrangement of the Brazilian classic Água De Beber. Hearing our students sing in Portuguese was a special treat.

We are grateful for the many folks who helped to make Viewpoint’s Fall Multicultural Day a wonderful success, especially PPDI! We look forward to next year’s celebration and the continued growth of this cherished tradition.

Viewpoint and the VSSA Welcome New and Returning Parents for the 2024 School Year at Annual Community Life Breakfast

During the first week of school, Viewpoint and its parent volunteer group, the VSSA, hosted its annual Community Life Breakfast, a long-standing and beloved tradition and joyous event.

In addition to welcoming new and returning families, attendees were presented with volunteer opportunities for the year all in one place.

“It’s a privilege to welcome both new and returning families and kick off the year. Our Community Life Breakfast offers a unique opportunity to unite, engage, and discover how we can all contribute to making this a wonderful environment for our children,” shared Mona Smart, VSSA Primary and Lower School President.

Upon arrival at the Calabasas Country Club, attendees were able to grab coffee and breakfast while socializing with each other and making new connections. From Homecoming and Book Far, to Luncheons, Parent Education, and Employee Appreciation, attendees discovered all the ways they can get involved and make a difference. They also learned more about joining our Parent/Guardian Diversity Council, and volunteering for our Viewpoint Fund.

Following breakfast, everyone took their seats for a program that featured welcome remarks and updates from VSSA Co-Presidents Mona Smart and Diana Putzer, Head of School Mark McKee, Board Chair Andy Kieffer, and Heads of Enrollment, Diversity, and Advancement, Laurel Baker Tew, Patricia Jackson, and Olivia Powell respectively.

"As we begin the new school year, the optimism at Viewpoint is undeniable. This fresh start brings new faces, opportunities, and a chance to build on the traditions that make our community special,” shared Putzer. “Whether supporting events like Homecoming and Splash Bash or volunteering as a room parent, every contribution helps nurture the hope and promise that our students embody at every stage of their journey."

Head of School Mark McKee echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the crucial role of collective efficacy in the success of the school community.

"When we work together, we accomplish things that would be nearly impossible alone," McKee noted. "Your child will experience this throughout the school year, and as they become part of a community united by shared values and strategies, the real power of collective efficacy will become evident. At its heart, the love of learning is deeply rooted in this collective strength.”

We are excited to partner with our dedicated new and returning parent volunteers this school year as we continue to advance our mission of preparing students to be World Ready.
