This class is for students studying strings in the Traditional and Suzuki methods. Repertoire will include pieces from the Suzuki method and the Essential Elements text. The incorporation of these two methods will allow for expansion of present skills and musical concepts. Proper posture and accurate intonation will be reinforced. The final class on Friday will culminate into a small performance. Parent participation is strongly encouraged, but not required. Students will need to bring their instruments.
This class is open to Viewpoint and non-Viewpoint string students. Any student who has not participated in the Viewpoint Strings Program should contact the Summer Programs Office, Ms. McLeod, or Dr. Alvarez for further information.
Ms. Marisa McLeod holds a Master’s of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and her Bachelor’s from Montclair State University in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. Her musical career includes ten years with the Marian Anderson String Quartet, performances in various states in the United States, plus France, Belgium and Holland, studio recordings for movies and recording artists. She also performs with the California Philharmonic, Santa Barbara Symphony, and various orchestras in the Los Angeles area. Marisa coordinates the Suzuki Strings Program in addition to teaching beginning strings at Viewpoint School.
Dr. Nick Alvarez has enjoyed and eclectic career as cellist and music educator. He teaches in the Suzuki Program at Viewpoint where he assists with Middle and Upper School orchestras. He holds a Doctorate of Music from Arizona State University, a Master’s of Music from Roosevelt University and a Bachelor’s of Music from University of North Texas.
