Beach volleyball is an Olympic sport AND the quintessential California sport. Athletes who are interested in getting fit and improving their strength and conditioning while learning the game of beach volleyball will benefit from this fun camp. Beach volleyball is a slightly different game from indoor volleyball, but the fundamentals are the same. Working out on the beach, in the sand, is a great low-impact way to get quicker, stronger and to improve skills for the indoor volleyball game – and it is great cross training for other sports as well. This training is directed by Viewpoint teacher/coach David Martin who has over 20 years playing and competing in beach volleyball and over 17 years teaching athletes the fundamentals of the sport. Every young athlete who has a passion for volleyball, loves the beach, and wants to improve his/her indoor game should play beach volleyball!
  • Junior Lifeguarding Class at Viewpoint School

    Dates: June 8 - June 19, 2020
    Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
    Grades: 4-10
    Coach:
      Briggitte Kroetz
    Fee: $580

The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding program is designed to guide youths ages 11-14 through the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course by building a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills of future lifeguards.

This course is an effective transition as it challenges and encourages the participants to stay involved with aquatics. They will learn the basic responsibilities of a lifeguard and practice communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills. The participants will be introduced to first aid, CPR, and AED skills as well. However, this program does NOT certify participants in any of those subjects and it does not indicate that the person is trained to be a lifeguard. There is no validity period to this certification. Participants are not required to master or perfectly execute skills, but they will learn important techniques and build stamina during the program.

*Before entering the Junior Lifeguarding class, participants must complete the precourse session, in order to assess their skills and ability in the water. The precourse session will take place at the beginning of the first day of class. Participants must demonstrate the following skills: Swim the front crawl (freestyle) for 25 yards continuously while breathing to front or side, swim the breaststroke for 25 yards using a pull-breathe-kick-glide sequence, treading or floating for one minute (keeping head above water), leveling off to swim 25 yards on front or back, and exit without using a ladder or steps.

Each lesson includes dryland and in-water activities with the exception of the lesson focused on first aid. We will swim, play games, run team-building and communication activities.
