LeRhonda Greats, Viewpoint’s Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Life, will lead a discussion of Robin DiAngelo’s book What Does It Mean To Be White? Developing White Racial Literacy
The Teaching While White website asserts, “More than 80% of teachers in the U.S. are white. However, most don’t know that their whiteness matters. Teaching While White (TWW) seeks to move the conversation forward on how to be consciously, intentionally, anti-racist in the classroom. Because “white” does not mean a blank slate. It is a set of assumptions that is the baseline from which everything is judged; it is what passes for normal. TWW wants to have conversations about those assumptions: what they are, how they impact our students, and how we can confront our bias to promote racial literacy.” Teaching While White is a website and podcast co-founded by educators Elizabeth Denevi and Jenna Chandler-Ward. It is LeRhonda’s hope that by introducing Dr. Robin DiAngelo’s book and discussion into our community, we can move closer to one another. Please join this discussion, open to all!
