24 Viewpoint Students Recognized with 40 Regional Awards in the 2024 Scholastic Art & Writing Competition

Congratulations to our outstanding fine artists and writers who won five Gold, 18 Silver, and 17 Honorable Mention Regional awards in the 2024 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards from the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

This year, Viewpoint’s four Regional Gold Key winners will advance to the national level of competition for final judging in New York City, with the results announced on June 11. For more than 20 years, Viewpoint’s art and writing students have gone on to receive Gold and Silver awards at the national level.

"Art is incomplete until it finds its audience. Submitting your work may feel risky, but it's thrilling to know that someone has read your work and appreciated it,” shared Nan Cohen, English Department Chair. “Every submission is a step towards finding your audience and receiving recognition for your creativity."

Established in 1923, The Scholastic Art & Writing competition is the most prestigious recognition program in writing and the visual arts for students in Seventh through Twelfth Grades in the United States. Young artists and writers are granted more than $1,000,000 in scholarships and prizes. Past winners include artists Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, and John Baldessari; writers Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, and Joyce Carol Oates; photographer Richard Avedon; actors Robert Redford, Alan Arkin, Lena Dunham, and John Lithgow; fashion designer Zac Posen; and filmmakers Ken Burns and Richard Linklater.

"Receiving this award is a moment of pride for our students. It not only boosts their confidence but also enhances their college applications,” said Nell Yates, Ceramics Teacher and Visual Arts Interim Department Chair. “As someone who received Scholastic awards as a kid, it's incredibly rewarding to see these students, 20-30 years later, receiving recognition from the same organization."

Viewpoint is proud of our 2024 Scholastic Award winners:
