CALABASAS, CA, August 26, 2026 – Viewpoint School today announced plans for the Jeong Ho Amphitheater, a landmark venue that will serve as the heart of its campus, bringing students, faculty, families, alumni, and guests together to learn, perform, celebrate, and connect. Scheduled to open in late 2027, the $10 million project is already more than 80 percent funded by philanthropy and brings to life one of the central priorities outlined in Viewpoint's strategic vision for 2036: building world-ready spaces for academic, artistic, and athletic excellence.

"Viewpoint's Amphitheater will serve as a cultural cornerstone, providing a venue where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can come together to celebrate the arts, develop leadership, and build community. It will be our very own Hollywood Bowl," said President and Head of School Mark McKee.

Located on a crescent-shaped plot of land on Viewpoint’s campus across Dry Canyon Creek from Academic Hall and the Carlson Family Theater, the Jeong Ho Amphitheater will accommodate 531 people, with full ADA accessibility. Complete with lighting and sound capabilities, it will feature a bandshell, shade sails, outdoor classroom, teaching garden, and pedestrian bridge connecting the Amphitheater to the landing outside the Fletcher Family Library. Designed by Plural Studio and built by Douglass Design + Build, the Amphitheater will honor our unique geography and be one of the most beautiful school spaces in Los Angeles. 

This distinctive capital project will be entirely funded by philanthropy and has garnered significant early support. The initiative was launched through the largest single gift in the School's history from actor and comedian Ken Jeong and his wife, Trustee and Board Vice Chair, Tran Ho, MD, in honor of their daughters, Alexa ’25 and Zooey ’25, and their extraordinary journey through Viewpoint. Their historic leadership gift names the Jeong Ho Amphitheater.

“Our daughters received an extraordinary education at Viewpoint, but more importantly, we found a lifelong community,” said Tran Ho and Ken Jeong, “We hope the Jeong Ho Amphitheater beats as the heart of Viewpoint, where the voices and creativity of the students echo through the canyons, inspiring generations to come.”

Inspired by their generosity, nine additional families representing trustees, current parents, grandparents, and alumni have joined the effort, helping bring the vision to life with heroic major gifts that make this landmark groundbreaking possible: Kristin and Jon M. Chu; Thao and Jerry Dodson; Lauren and Alfred English; Valerie Karno, PhD and Eric Glaser; Fiona Wong and William Go, MD PhD; Marianne and Brad Kern ’75; Valerie and Andy Kieffer; Haley and Scott Taylor; and Suzanne and Brian Watson.  

Designed to unite all four divisions of the School, the Jeong Ho Amphitheater will serve as an outdoor classroom, performance venue, and gathering place for assemblies, guest speakers, celebrations, and community events. From a child's first performance to a senior's final reflection before graduation, the Amphitheater will become the stunning backdrop for countless iconic moments that define a Viewpoint education.

While the heroic generosity of 10 lead donor families has brought the project more than 80 percent of the way to completion, many opportunities remain for the broader Viewpoint community to help bring this vision across the finish line. As Viewpoint celebrates its 65th anniversary, the School invites parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends to help create a gathering place that will inspire learning, performance, and connection for generations to come.
