Forward Together: A Vision for Viewpoint’s Next Decade

Since our founding in 1961, Viewpoint School has pursued a distinctive path in independent education.

Our mission—to create exceptional readiness for extraordinary futures by cultivating the critical skill set, courageous mindset, and resilient identity of each individual student—speaks to today’s truths and tomorrow’s possibilities. Viewpoint students discover who they are, envision where they want to go, and gain the tools to make their mark on the world.

We face a world of accelerating change and complexity, and the need to cultivate world-readiness for our students at every age and stage has never been greater. Our vision for the next decade is about more than growth; it’s about deepening our culture of excellence, community, and innovation. This document highlights the priorities that will help us achieve that vision and the initiatives we must invest in to deliver on our promise.

We will evolve and transform the Viewpoint experience by:

  • Developing deeper connections between students and teachers and launching new experiential programs that fulfill our world-ready promise;
  • Building inspiring spaces for academics, arts, and athletics that enrich learning and amplify our community spirit; and
  • Extending our reach to serve more students and families and secure our long-term future.

Our Four Priorities

Building a Team of World-Ready Educators

A life-changing education is powered by an exceptional team of teachers and leaders who inspire, challenge, and guide our students. Our culture of excellence will ensure that our students receive not only high-caliber instruction, but also coaching, artistic guidance, and mentorship that nurture their intellectual curiosity, emotional resilience, and ethical leadership—in the classroom, on the stage, and on the field.

We will:

  • Recruit and retain exceptional, diverse educators, coaches, and staff who embody our mission and excel at mentoring students to reach their full potential;
  • Strengthen our teacher-led professional development program, empowering our faculty and coaches to deliver outstanding instruction, provide meaningful mentorship, and foster essential student skills;
  • Launch initiatives that identify and develop leaders among the faculty, staff, and coaches within our community, creating pathways for career advancement and leadership growth; and
  • Translate our alumni connections into a powerful network of mentors, career guides, and real-world learning partners who open doors for current students in academics, athletics, and beyond.

Building World-Ready Programs with Real-World Impact

In today's rapidly evolving world, education must extend beyond textbooks and the traditional classroom. Our students need learning experiences that are meaningful, relevant, and impactful—opportunities that develop their academic knowledge and their character, creativity, and capacity to make a difference. Through signature programs and authentic real-world experiences, we will ensure every student discovers unique strengths and passions while developing the skills, mindsets, and ethical foundations needed to thrive in an increasingly complex global society. By connecting classroom learning to community needs, future careers, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary collaboration, we will prepare students who are ready to build the future.

We will:

  • Connect classroom concepts to authentic contexts, deepening the engagement of all students in learning experiences that combine theoretical knowledge with real-world problem-solving, community service initiatives, and hands-on projects;
  • Capitalize on our industry-leading Maker and Robotics programs to pioneer AI literacy initiatives that equip students to shape—and question—the role of artificial intelligence;
  • Cultivate dynamic pathways connecting students to future careers through professional mentorships, shadowing opportunities, and experiences that ignite passion and purpose, including a new Business and Entrepreneurship Scholars Program;
  • Seek further opportunities for regional and national distinction and industry collaboration through our signature Arts, STEM and Humanities programs; and
  • Ground every initiative, from academics to athletics, in character, belonging, and well-being to foster resilient, collaborative leaders.

Building World-Ready Spaces For Academic, Artistic, and Athletic Excellence

The spaces we create will reflect and amplify the strong sense of community that makes Viewpoint extraordinary. Every space–performing arts venues, cutting-edge classrooms, and athletic facilities– will be designed for what happens within, and for the connections and creative energy they inspire.

At the heart of campus, an amphitheater will bring the magic of Viewpoint to life. More than a performance space, it will be a place of connection—where young students discover the joy of speaking on stage and seniors return to share wisdom in the same spot their journey began. It will be an outdoor classroom, a stage for celebration, and a gathering place for reflection, inspiration, and shared experience.

Our athletic identity will be transformed by expanded facilities that support scholar-athletes and elevate character-driven competition. These spaces will be more than practice fields—they will be arenas of growth, where students learn to lead and follow, persist through challenges, and represent Viewpoint with pride. By bringing athletics fully home to campus, we reinforce the unity of academic, artistic, and athletic excellence that defines the well-rounded education we deliver.

We will:

  • Build an iconic Amphitheater to enliven the natural heart of our campus;
  • Build much needed athletic facilities and improve existing fields, gyms, and pools;
  • Enhance classroom and community spaces across all four divisions to support the dynamic way students learn and collaborate across disciplines; and
  • Leverage our location in the Santa Monica Mountains to provide distinctive outdoor experiences.

Building the Financial Model for a World-Ready School

Our vision can only be as great as the financial foundation that brings transformative learning experiences to life. Our ambitious plans require strategic investment and a community-wide commitment to philanthropy.

With a sense of unity and shared purpose, parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends will rally around our School's ambitious goals, fueling a culture of philanthropy that is rooted in the many, not the one. Like the students we educate, Viewpoint's giving community embodies values of love, honor, service, and the joy of contributing to a purpose greater than ourselves. Our collective effort will create tremendous impact.

At the same time, revenue from philanthropy makes its impact in concert with strategic enrollment management and prudent management of expenses. By strengthening our financial core and growing our reach, we will secure our institution's long-term vitality while remaining accessible to more families. Our priorities balance bold initiatives with fiscal responsibility, creating a sustainable model so that our mission will flourish for generations to come.

We will:

  • Increase participation in philanthropy by cultivating a deeper root culture of giving;
  • Embark upon strategic fundraising campaigns centered on investing in people, places, and programs, with particular focus on building facilities, doubling our endowment, and sustaining an exceptional annual operation;
  • Strengthen our commitment to affordability and access; and
  • Grow to serve more families across Los Angeles
