4/13/2012
On March 11 Jackson P. '14, Finn G. '15, Harrison K. '14, and Logan B. '14, Viewpoint's Jazz Quartet, performed at JamFest 6 at the Roxy in Hollywood to benefit MusiCares, the philanthropic arm of the Grammys. The Jazz Quartet opened the show with "Oleo" by Sonny Rollins and "Red Clay" by Freddie Hubbard.
The festival was established six years ago to provide an opportunity for musicians from Los Angeles area independent schools to raise money through performance for MusiCares, which helps to support musicians in need. This year Viewpoint participated along with students from Bridges Academy, Campbell Hall, Crossroads, Harvard-Westlake, Star Prep Academy, New Community Jewish High School, and the Join the Band music program.
According to music teacher Roger Fletcher, Viewpoint's jazz musicians made a strong impression. "I am really proud of the group," said Mr. Fletcher. "They dedicated their free time to rehearsal and represented Viewpoint well. We are looking forward to participating in this worthy event again next year."
