Dr. Christopher Fulton Shares His Stress Management Strategies with Viewpoint’s Parents

3/29/2012
With warmth and good humor, Dr. Christopher Fulton recently spoke to our families about strategies for managing stress. As a licensed clinical psychologist and the parent of two children, Dr. Fulton offered valuable firsthand experience on helping families successfully navigate the inevitable stresses of modern family life. The VSSA presented Dr. Fulton’s lecture as part of their popular Parent Education Series.

Dr. Fulton discussed the physical signs of stress, simple techniques to help children manage anxiety, and the long-term effects of stress. His advice included strategies for lifestyle modification and tactics for helping children change perspective when difficult situations arise. Dr. Fulton also emphasized the importance of teaching children problem-solving skills, communication skills, and healthy habits, as well as ensuring that children have a strong support system of adults they can trust. He believes that all of these elements can help parents raise resilient children, who are better able to manage stressful situations and the challenges of adult life.
