 | The Art Department is dedicated to nurturing the creative element that is present in all of us through a wide variety of courses designed to enable students to experience a multitude of mediums within the areas of drawing and painting, sculpture, ceramics, and photography. The visual arts program begins in the Primary and Lower grades with a focus on the development of fine motor skills in Kindergarten, and continues through Fifth Grade’s study of art history movements, drawing, watercolor, pastel, ceramics, and collage. In weekly art classes all of our youngest students find and hone their talents using a variety of mediums. In the Middle School, students benefit from expanded programs and electives in ceramics, drawing and painting, photography, sculpture, and multicultural art studies.
Greatly expanded visual arts programs in the Upper School encourage students to immerse themselves in four-year art programs, including: Art I through Advanced Placement Art, Sculpture I through Advanced Placement Sculpture, Ceramics I through Advanced Placement Ceramics, and Photography I through Advanced Photography. Each year a number of art students participate in local and national art competitions and a very active Art Club organizes and hangs a student art show, “Gallery Night.”
