  • Viewpoint School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school with Kindergarten through Grade Twelve, founded in 1961. Situated on a 25-acre campus in Calabasas, California, Viewpoint is home to 1,200 students, making it the fourth largest independent school in the California Association of Independent Schools.
  • A highly favorable 10:1 ratio of students to teachers assures personal attention and a nurturing environment for students in each of its four divisions: Primary (Kindergarten through Second Grade), Lower (Grades Three through Five), Middle (Grades Six through Eight), and Upper Schools (Grades Nine through Twelve).
  • Over the past three years, 10 percent of Viewpoint's graduating classes earned recognition in the National Merit Scholar competition. In that same three years, the average SAT Reasoning score (Critical Reading/Verbal & Math sections only) for Viewpoint's seniors is 1283.

  • Viewpoint's graduates earn acceptance to selective colleges and universities. Recent graduates attend Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, Harvard, MIT, University of California, Berkeley and Los Angeles, Oxford University (England), Dartmouth, Duke, Penn, Yale, Tufts, Middlebury, University of Southern California, New York University, Smith College, University of Miami, Washington University at St. Louis, Wesleyan University, Northwestern University, Georgetown University, and Johns Hopkins, among others.

  • Viewpoint offers 28 Advanced Placement (AP) and 14 honors courses, far surpassing the number of AP offerings at other private and public schools in the area. According to Wade Curry, Director of AP programs for The College Board, Viewpoint's scores on AP exams are "among the highest in the nation." In 2009, 209 students sat for 485 examinations in 28 subjects. Ninety-one percent of exams earned scores of 3 or above, 72 percent earned scores of 4 or 5, and 45 percent earned scores of 5. Viewpoint’s AP participation last year was 14.8 percent for Tenth Grade, 61.3 percent for Eleventh Grade, and 77.2 percent for Twelfth Grade.

  • In the past two years, Viewpoint School has had 19 AP National Scholars, 79 AP Scholars with Distinction, 44 AP Scholars with Honor, and 48 AP Scholars.
  • Viewpoint annually fields more than 100 athletic teams in 16 sports for boys and girls in Grades Five through Twelve, in addition to outdoor education, fencing and cheerleading. In 2007, the Boys Volleyball and Boys Tennis Teams won California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championships. It was the Tennis Team's fourth consecutive CIF title and the Volleyball Team's third.
  • The School encourages and develops scholar-athletes, evidenced by the fact that Viewpoint teams won All-Academic Award from the California Interscholastic Federation four times in the last seven years. In the same seven years, Viewpoint's students won eight individual championships.
  • Recently, the Upper School's teams have won twelve team and individual League Championships and two CIF Championships. In recent years, Viewpoint's athletes in Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Football earned more than 25 All-CIF honors as well as All-League recognitions. Many of Viewpoint's athletes continue to compete in college.
  • In 2007, Viewpoint won the coveted Commissioner's Cup from the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) for its boys athletic program in 2006-07. The Commissioner's Cup recognizes “comprehensive excellence in interscholastic competition” and is awarded to the girls’ and boys' athletic programs that had the best record [out of 564 schools] regardless of the program’s Division.
  • The Upper School's students are required to contribute 45 hours to community service in order to graduate, but it is not unusual for some to volunteer more than 1,000 hours. The Class of 2006 contributed 25,000 hours to community service. The Classes of 2003-2008 collectively contributed more than 100,000 hours to community service.
  • Viewpoint School won the coveted BRAVO Award for 2005 in recognition of its outstanding programs in the Fine and Performing Arts. The Music Center of Los Angeles sponsors this competition which annually honors the school with outstanding programs in the arts in Los Angeles County.   • In the Primary and Lower Schools, students have distinct teachers and facilities for art, music, science, computers, physical education, French, and Spanish, plus a host of special assemblies and an introduction to community service.

  • In the Middle and Upper Schools, a rich selection of courses in the arts and music is available, with electives that include theater, dance, computer animation, filmmaking, oceanography, robotics, and international relations. In 2004-05, the Upper School's Film IV film project, Locker Space, won two awards at Method Fest, a film festival that celebrates breakout acting in independent films. Locker Space received the award for Best Acting Ensemble in a youth film and Best Screenplay for a youth film.

  • In recent years, Viewpoint's Eighth and Ninth Grade students won 20 percent of all first-place awards at the Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair, from a field of 1,000 students from 102 public and private schools in Southern California.

  • Viewpoint has organized educational trips to England, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Japan, China, and Russia. The School organizes visits to two or three of these countries annually.

  • For many years Viewpoint earned the highest possible level of reaccreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and from the California Association of Independent Schools.

  • In September 2003 the City Council of Calabasas approved Viewpoint's Master Plan for the improvement of the campus. The School began construction on its Cornerstone Project in June 2004. A new Upper School Academic Center with 24 classrooms opened September 2005, and a Performing Arts Center opened February 2006. A new interscholastic athletic field, Ring Family Field, opened in spring of 2007. The new Fletcher Library for secondary school opened fall, 2009.
  • Viewpoint is the first school in California and among the first in the United States to offer the Duke of Edinburgh International Award to our Upper School students.  Founded by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in 1956, the International Award is an exciting self-development program available to young people worldwide equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities, and their world.  To date, almost five million young people from over 110 countries have undertaken a variety of voluntary and challenging activities to meet the requirements of this award.  In May, 2007, Viewpoint was honored to welcome HRH The Prince Edward Earl of Wessex, son of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and Governor Schwarzenegger to our campus to present the first medals.
