About Us

Emergency Preparedness

Viewpoint School prides itself on being a safe campus and thoroughly prepared for emergency circumstances. The School has an extensive Emergency Preparedness Plan, which was developed with the input from the local sheriff's and fire departments. This plan includes information for faculty, staff, and students on the following:
  • Crisis Procedures
  • Earthquake
  • Emergency Communication
  • Flooding
  • Psychological Trauma Management
  • Lock-Down Procedures
  • Emergency Teams
  • Other Emergencies
  • On-Campus Evacuation Plans
The School conducts monthly earthquake drills or fire drills. The teachers instruct the students how to drop, tuck, and hold in the event of an earthquake. The children, faculty, and staff are well informed about emergency procedures and are familiar with the three emergency assembly areas on campus. The School maintains a three-day supply of food, water, and other emergency supplies in the event that we must stay on campus for an extended period of time.

Below is a list of the media outlets that we will contact with emergency information:
  • AM radio stations: KABC 790, KFWB 980, KNX 1070, KFI 640
  • Television stations: CBS 2, NBC 4, ABC 7, KCAL 9, Fox 11, UPN 13
Please note that we cannot guarantee that the radio and television stations we contact will broadcast Viewpoint's information.

Receiving Emergency Information
In the event of an emergency, the School will post emergency information on Viewpoint’s Web site, Viewpoint’s Emergency Hotline (800-394-0892), and activates ALERTNOW. If you have not received a voice message from ALERTNOW, please check the Web site or Emergency Hotline for the emergency information. Please do not call Viewpoint in the event of a major emergency; it is important that the School’s telephone lines remain open. In addition, do not come to campus until you are instructed to do so through one of the messaging systems. ALERTNOW relays a voice message from Viewpoint to all families. If the automated system receives a busy signal, the program will redial the family up to six additional times. The message from ALERTNOW will provide some information about the emergency and instruct families to look at our Web site or call the Emergency Hotline for additional information.

Contact Information
Please notify the School with any changes to the emergency contact number that you provided the School on your child's emergency form. In addition, in the event of an early school closure, children will only be allowed to leave campus with those individuals designed as "Authorized to Transport" on the emergency form. Please be sure to keep updated all emergency information for your family throughout the year. Information changes can be sent to Oriya Hirschhorn, Administrative Assistant to the Headmaster, at Oriya.Hirschhorn@viewpoint.org.
